Cracking day for bowls at Corinella

A beautiful autumn day attracted bowlers to Corinella like bees to a honey-pot last week as a super-strong contingent of 40 players turned out for the South West Gippsland Mid-Week Bowling Group.

It was great to see so many bowlers on the green and there was lots of laughter and friendly banter heard around the traps all day.

Our good friend Phil opened up and set up the green, as well as looking after the kitchen and bar.

We’re not sure how he manages to do so much and still have time to play, but Phil, we thank you very much for all your hard work.

On the green there was some excellent bowls put down.

There were a couple of wrong bias bowls, which is always good news for the Royal Children’s Hospital, but these rare occurrences didn’t in any way reduce the quality of play.

The weekly winners on 35 points, via a countback, were Tony Heppleston (S), David Talbot (3), Bill Williams (2) and Shirley Corcoran (L).

Runners up, also on 35 points, were Vern Elliott (S), Sue Stanford (3), Michael Saunders (2) and Margaret McConville (L).

The best one-game winners, on 23 points, were Denis Talbot (S), Laurie Bell (3), Bev Elliott (2) and Max Williams (L).

It was great to see Lindsay back with the group following last week’s episode.

Once again, the group would like to thank Peter and Pauline for all their hard work, and also to John for his Master of Ceremonies duties each week.

Next week the group will be meeting at San Remo to once again fight it out for team of the week.

If all players could be on site by 10am to allow Peter enough time to select the teams that would be greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing everyone there.
