Van Der Horst on a serious roll

GARFIELD GOLF

Garfield had a great week weather wise with the course drying out considerably with last week’s windy weather pattern – however preferred lies thru the green are still in play due to the softer turf around.

This week the spotlight goes on one of our lady golfers, Karli Van Der Horst, whom has put together a superb stretch of consistent play.

In total, over the last three months, Karli has had five victories including a monthly medal and a staggering 13 nearest the pins.

Well played to you Karli.

Saturday was a game of single stableford which attracted a field of 92 punters with the overall scoring of an average winter standard.

A score of 34 points or better was good enough to get a ball down the line.

Best in for the day, with a B Grade winning score, was John Hoare with a score of 41 points, two points clear of Daryl Sheehan in second place.

Mark Robertson got the A Grade victory with a score of 40 points, three points clear of Andrew Went in second place.

Peter Lazarus, having a great run of form, won the C Grade event with a score of 37 points to defeat Nick Gaal and Shaun Webster by just one point.

Just a total of the seven birdies were scored for the day on the par threes.

Thursday’s game attracted an excellent sized field for this time of the year with a total of 63 enjoying the balmy conditions.

Graeme Lowndes got the A Grade win in a three-way count back decision from Paul Kaye and a rampant John Blair with a score of 36 points.

Terry McLaughlin broke a run of outs to get the B Grade win, also with a score of 36 points, defeating Geoff Roberts and Rob Bride by just one point.

A new name in Mal Beniston got the C Grade win with a score of 37 points, two points clear of Gary Kelly and, once again, Peter Lazarus.

A final score of 34 points or better was good enough to get a ball down the line.

John Cragg had the day’s best score on Monday with a round of 41 points, three points clear of, yet again, John Blair and Ray Pund.

However that’s not the full story of the day’s events, as one gentleman, whom shall remain undisclosed on account of the privacy act, had two over off the stick on the front nine – which equates to a mind blowing 24 points .

However that was the end of the greatness with the gent then absolutely collapsing on the back nine with a miserly eight points.

He somewhat redeemed himself with a score of 35 points on Thursday.

The West Gippsland Vets competition starts again on 5 September at Traralgon with an A Grade stroke event and stableford events for the B and C Grade members.

Entries to John Scale please by 31 August thanks.

There are also notices up for upcoming events in the men’s wash-room notice board if anyone is interested.

Next Saturday is a two-person multiplication stableford event.
