‘Spanky’ spark inspires Cranbourne to victory

CRANBOURNE BOWLS

Wayne ‘Spanky’ Stevens, the big man with a heart the size of Phar lap, continued his great form in the top side contributing to a 28-shot win in his rink which gave Cranbourne an overall win by 62 shots against Vermont South on Saturday.

Wayne returned to the club this year with his son Matt Stevens and they are both now playing some outstanding bowls for the club in the top side.

The second side also enjoyed a good win and in mid-week bowls the third and fourth sides had some exciting wins…both by one shot!

Looking for consistency after a great win last week, head Coach Lyn Quigg invited team mate Neil ‘Buddy’ Drummond to address the players before the game.

Loaded with great wisdom Neil talked about consistency and to ‘put your heart into the game for your club’.

With that, Cranbourne went on to win by a massive 62 shots at Vermont South.

Skip Jay Tootell and his crew of Lynne Wood, Wayne ‘Spanky’ Stevens and Neil ‘Buddy’ Drummond were in season-high great form and won by 28 shots, while skip Lyn Quigg won by nine shots, Doug Boggie by six shots and Jammie Corney won by 19 shots.
