Valentine’s Day has gone horribly wrong for a Cranbourne East man after he was clocked nearly 60km/h over the speed limit in Upper Beaconsfield.
State Highway Patrol officers were travelling along Beaconsfield-Emerald Road in an unmarked police vehicle when they observed a Hyundai Kona overtake them at a fast rate of speed about 10.30pm on Saturday 14 February.
The vehicle, belonging to the man’s female passenger, was detected at an alleged speed of 128km/h in the 70km/h zone.
Officers intercepted the vehicle and spoke with the 29-year-old driver.
He received an immediate 12-month loss of licence, and the car was impounded for a period of 30 days at a cost of $1304.75.
The man is expected to be charged on summons to appear before a magistrate at a later date.
Hours earlier, officers detected a Toyota Camry travelling nearly 40km/h over the speed limit in Pakenham.
Police spotted the vehicle allegedly reaching speeds of 138km/h in a 100km/h zone on Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Road about 8.30pm.
The 63-year-old driver, a French National, was issued a $763 fine and disqualified from driving for a period of 6 months.
