Casey residents were caught off guard today when a burst of hail swept through the area during the lunch hour, transforming streets and gardens into icy scenes.
The sudden storm saw small hailstones pelting down, creating a wintry atmosphere more typical of alpine regions than suburban Melbourne. Photos were shared on Facebook across Cranbourne, Berwick, and Beaconsfield.
“I was having some lunch at home when it got dark gradually, and then it started hailing, and it just continued for several minutes,” Cranbourne resident Stevco Risteski said.
“Hail isn’t unusual for this time of year, but I was astonished when I saw my weather station showing a temperature of under 5 degrees, which is quite cold for the middle of the day.
“It hasn’t risen above 8 all day.”
Ranfurlie Golf Club in Cranbourne also posted beautiful photos of its course on Facebook.
“It was one of those moments where you just had to stop and take it in — within minutes the course was blanketed in white,” Kristian Faul, the consultant of the golf club, said.
“A rare and dramatic scene, and one we don’t see often at Ranfurlie.
“What was just as remarkable was how quickly the ice melted away, revealing the lush, well-maintained fairways underneath.
“It was back to business as usual not long after…”
