Explosives, drugs and stolen property seized in Cranbourne

Police uncovered a significant quantity of explosives, ammunition and drugs in Cranbourne as part of an investigation into theft of motor vehicles in the Frankston area.

The explosives were located during the execution of a search warrant at a residential address in Cranbourne on the morning of Wednesday, 28 May. The Bomb Response Unit (BRU) subsequently deployed to render the items safe.

Investigators seized:

– Approximately 15kg of explosives

– more than 40kg of chemicals used in the manufacturing of explosives

– more than 60 detonation devices

The 26-year-old Cranbourne man was interviewed and subsequently charged with:

– Possess explosive substance

– Possess cartridge ammunition

– Theft of motor vehicle

– Theft from motor vehicle

– Traffic drug of dependence

– Three counts of possess drug of dependence

– Handle stolen goods

He was remanded overnight to face Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 29 May.
