Cranbourne West Primary School won the Victorian Human Powered Vehicles (HPV) Grand Prix Series on Saturday 3 May.
The school team, CWPS Timberwolves, came top in the Junior category at the second round of the Victorian Human Powered Vehicles this year, with an average lap time of 3:37.88, 0.79 seconds ahead of the runner-up: EcoRush from White Hills Primary.
Christopher McGowan, coach and HPV program coordinator of Cranbourne West Primary School, said the school achieved a great performance in this round, defeating the best primary School team of the last 10 years in a nail-biter.
“We came up against White Hills Primary School; they’ve basically won every competition over the last 10 years,” he said.
“We got to a hundred laps. They came right down to the very, very last minute of the race.
“We made some strategic pit stops. And we know it should be done by half lap.”
About 32 students participated in this round, with eight of them graduates coming back to race for the school.
