Sit up for lost and abandoned pets!

Workout season is about to take centre stage in October with the Sit ups for Strays fitness challenge by The Lost Dogs’ Home.

Sit Ups for Strays sets the challenge of doing 49 sit-ups each day in October for the 49 lost and abandoned animals who come through the doors of the shelter every day.

The Lost Dogs’ Home spokesperson Suzana Talevski said it was time to help those with a paw by using your core.

“We are hoping to get as many people as possible behind this challenge and with all ability levels catered for, now is the perfect to get behind our furry friends,’’ she said.

‘’Every dollar raised in the Sit Ups for Strays challenge will help give lost and abandoned dogs and cats the best chance of a happy and healthy life.’’

More than 800 people right across the country have already signed up for the challenge but the Home is hoping for thousands more.

“We hope as many people as possible get behind the challenge and flex their muscles in support of the Home,” Ms Talevski said.

“All you need to do is sign up, challenge yourself to do 49 sit-ups each day in October, and ask your family and friends to sponsor you.”

Ms Talevski said all fitness levels were encouraged to get involved.

“This is a challenge where everyone and anyone in the community gets involved,” she said.

“If you can’t do sit-ups that’s ok too as options such as crunches, ab twists and even bicep curls are perfectly fine.

“It’s all about getting involved because there are more than 18,000 animals a year that come through our doors and they desperately need your help.’’
