South East gridlock after serious freeway crash

A serious multi-vehicle crash led to all inbound lanes being closed on Monash Freeway, Mulgrave.

A serious multi-vehicle crash on the Monash Freeway in Mulgrave has caused long traffic delays on South East roads.

Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedics responded to the crash between EastLink and Wellington Road about 6.15am.

A person has been transported by road ambulance to The Alfred hospital, an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

Another was transported by road ambulance to Dandenong Hospital.

As of 8.30am, all citybound lanes on the freeway remained closed between EastLink and Wellington Road.

Delays of up to 60 minutes on the freeway occurred as a result, with queues on South Gippsland Freeway, according to the Department of Transport.

Train services on the Cranbourne and Pakenham lines were reportedly running well.

City-bound drivers were advised to use the heavily congested alternative routes on South Gippsland Highway, Princes Highway and Wellington Road.

Entry ramps at Wellington Road, Ferntree Gully Road and Blackburn Road provide inbound access to Monash Freeway after the crash site.

Ramps from EastLink to Monash Freeway are closed in both directions. Drivers were advised to use ramps at Wellington Road or Princes Highway.

Meanwhile, northbound delays on EastLink were back to Greens Road. The department advised drivers to enter off Springvale Road.
