A gas leak has been reported in Cranbourne East on New Holland Drive after an excavator hit a gas main.
FRV crews were called to the scene at 1pm, alongside CFA crews from Cranbourne and Narre Warren brigades.
They remain at the scene.
Staff and students at nearby Cranbourne Primary School have been advised to remain inside.
An advice message has gone out warning people of the smell of gas in a south-easterly direction from New Holland Drive.
Representatives from the gas company are also present.
