The community of Riverfield Clyde and its surrounding suburbs will see a new local convenience centre open if Oreana Property’s development plans are approved by Council.

Designed by architects Clarke Hopkins Clarke, Oreana Property has lodged an application for a local convenience centre that will deliver key amenity to residents including a new supermarket, retail shops, café, restaurants, medical centre and 146-place childcare centre.

Both its construction and its operations are expected to generate a range of local jobs, adding to the prosperity of the Clyde area where Oreana has recently completed 95 town homes across two projects.

Oreana Property purchased the site from Brown Property Group in October 2022 for $5.6 million.

The proposed local convenience centre will be located within Brown Property Group’s master planned community of Riverfield.

Oreana Property managing director Tony Sass said the project on Ballarto Road will complement surrounding services and be a shining example of a local convenience centre that elevates the liveability and connectivity of a thriving neighbourhood.

“Located at the gateway corner of Riverfield, this centre is designed around local needs, desires and the community’s future vision,” he said.

“It offers the convenience of a supermarket, opportunities for local businesses and specialty retail, while supporting growing families through childcare services.

“Activated frontages and alfresco dining will offer comfortable, safe and inviting places to gather and spend time, creating a vibrant hub and providing a strong sense of identity for the local neighbourhood.”

The 8929 sqm site is positioned at 1895 Ballarto Road, which connects directly with the M420 South Gippsland Highway, providing easy access to the broader south-east corridor.

With a GRV of $18 million, the local convenience centre will consist of 14 retail and commercial tenancies across some 2,200 sqm comprising a supermarket, medical centre, food and beverage outlets, restaurants and retail shops.

To be named The Square Clyde, it will be positioned aside a 146-place childcare centre also being developed by Oreana Group and due for completion in late-2024.

The Square Clyde will sit adjacent to the future Clyde Regional Park – 120 hectares of multi-use, active and open space, while works are underway to upgrade Ballarto Road to a major four-lane arterial road.

Mr Sass said Oreana aimed to bring communities together through clever design and thoughtful development.

“The Square Clyde will boast quality and robust material and finishes, articulated built forms and an enduring architectural design,” he said.

“The modern, vibrant centre will feature a resilient and unique sense of place that every resident of Riverfield can be proud of.

“We look forward to leaving our mark on this growing community and bringing our expertise in crafting connected neighbourhoods to Clyde.”

The Square Clyde is earmarked for completion in mid-2025.
