Coastal volunteers needed

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is encouraging locals to help preserve a local section of the iconic Victorian foreshore on Bunurong Country.

Nominations are now open for volunteers to join other locals on the Cannons Creek Foreshore Reserve Committee of Management.

“Committees of Management do an outstanding job and we are grateful for their contribution to protect and manage our beautiful foreshore reserves,” said Stephen Chapple, Regional Director DEECA Port Phillip.

“Being a part of a committee ensures the local community is involved in decision making and a diverse range of voices are heard.

“This is a unique opportunity to play your part in protecting a slice of the foreshore.”

This unique opportunity is open to anyone who has an interest in preserving and protecting Casey’s stunning coastal foreshore.

Committee members are appointed for a term of three years and are responsible for the day-to-day management, care and protection of the foreshore reserve.

DEECA said each member plays a vital role in protecting the coast for everyone to enjoy.

The Committee is seeking people with skills in environmental management, Aboriginal and cultural heritage, business and asset management, human resources management, community liaison, education and/or training committee procedures and administration, legal affairs or financial management and accounting.

For further information and to access nomination forms please call DEECA on 136 186 or visit deeca.vic.gov.au/boards-and-governance/committees-of-management.

Applications close 5pm Wednesday 12 July.
