Man charged over assault

Lara Gilchrist has told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell how she was punched in the face by a homeless man on her way to work in Cranbourne.

The victim reported the incident left her with a broken nose and a swollen eye socket on Thursday 27 April.

“Instead of walking past me, he came at me, punched me in the face and just kept walking,” she said.

The incident took place near the intersection of High Street and William Street in Cranbourne.

Police report the man did not stop at the scene while witnesses rendered assistance to the woman who was taken to a nearby medical centre with facial injuries.

Police arrested a 38-year-old man of no fixed place of abode the following day and he has subsequently been charged with recklessly cause injury.

He was remanded to face Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 5 May.
