A 41-year-old man has been charged following a drug and cash seizure by the Major Drug Squad in Melbourne on Thursday 9 February.
After the execution of a search warrant on Thursday morning, detectives seized a significant quantity of cash, hidden inside a clothes dryer, as well as what appears to be MDMA.
The man has been charged over other drug offences and is being held in remand over two counts of attempt to traffick commercial quantity drug of dependence (1,4-Butanediol and methylamphetamine).
Investigators allege he was importing various drugs into Australia via international consignments.
1,4 Butanediol is a drug commonly imported as an industrial product and then often sold at significant profit to people who are led to believe it is GHB.
The drug can be unpredictable and because it works more slowly than the similar GHB, users are at risk of overdosing because they are likely to take a second or third dose.
The difference between survival and a fatal overdose can be very small.
The Cranbourne North resident was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
