Man surrenders himself to police following high-impact collision

A man has self-presented to Cranbourne Police Station following a serious collision in Cranbourne on Wednesday 24 August.

It is alleged a Ford sedan collided with a van making a right turn from the South Gippsland Highway onto Clairmont Road, causing it to roll, about 12.45pm.

The driver of the Ford allegedly ran from the scene and got into a dark blue sedan which was travelling nearby, before it drove off.

The driver of the van was taken to hospital with life-threatening-injuries.

The 20-year-old Cranbourne West man surrendered himself to police about 8pm on Wednesday night.

He was medically assessed and admitted to hospital for injuries sustained in the collision.

The man remains under police guard and will be interviewed by Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives when medically fit to do so.

Detectives are urging any witnesses, or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au
