Gembrook MP Brad Battin planted over 240 tree seedlings with 13 primary Schools as part of National Tree Planting Day, celebrated during the last week of July.
Among the participating schools in the area were Ramlegh Park Primary School, Clyde Grammar and Berwick Chase Primary School.
The seedlings provided personally by Mr Battin were indigenous to the Casey Cardinia region and specially sourced from the Friends of the Helmeted Honeyeater ‘HeHo Plant Nursery’ in Yellingbo.
“It was important to me and the schools that the seedlings we were planting were not only native but indigenous to our region and I thank Michelle from HeHo Plant Nursery on arranging a wonderful assortment of seedlings” Mr Battin said.
Mr Battin joined the students in getting their hands dirty planting the seedlings on the school grounds.
“The enthusiasm and energy from the students across my electorate was infectious. The love for their environment and protecting their future is reassuring we have a strong future ahead.”
He hopes to continue the annual event in the future.
“I believe joining students in this tree planting event is a proactive way to continue the important conversation of how we as a community have a strong responsibility to ensure we have a healthy environment for our future.”
