Community gives for displaced kids

Cranbourne-based not-for-profit Backpack 4 Vic Kids held its annual giving day on Friday 10 June, raising almost $16,000 to support children in need.

The organisation provides backpacks filled with essential items for Victorian children in care.

The annual giving day uses the charity’s social media and supporters to encourage a donation drive, with funds going towards covering the costs of producing the essentials backpacks.

Essentials in the backpack included nappies, feeding bottles and baby wipes, clothes, school equipment, soft toys and stationery packs.

Backpack 4 Vic Kids founder and chief executive officer Sally Beard said while they did not meet their fundraising goal of $75,000, the organisation was grateful for the support they received.

“We are very grateful to the community for the funds they’ve donated. We know it’s hard times for most people at the moment,” she said.

“For us, that means about 150 children that we can support with the My Essentials packs.”

While the official Backpack 4 Vic Kids’ Annual Giving Day is over, the online donation page is open until 30 June.

To donate, visit mycause.com.au/page/276315/2022-b4vk-annual-giving-day or call the store on 8712 9545.
