Major Roads Projects Victoria are set to commence early works on the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade later this month.
As part of the upgrade, Major Roads Projects Victoria (MRPV) will add extra lanes, safety barriers and shared use paths in each direction along the four kilometres of road between Thompsons Road and the South Gippsland Highway, and traffic lights will be installed to replace the roundabouts at Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
New traffic lights will also be installed at the South Gippsland Highway intersection, Majestic Boulevard, Lyall Street and Hunt Club Boulevard, while intersections will be upgraded at Kingdom Drive, Linsell Boulevard and Rochester Parade.
“We’re getting on with the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade to better connect road users to Cranbourne town centre, improve travel times and reduce traffic pressure on South Gippsland Highway,” an MRPV spokesperson said.
During these works, a speed reduction will be in place along Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road between South Gippsland Highway and Thompsons Road.
On-site barriers and gawk screens will be installed along approximately five kilometres of the project alignment to keep work crews and road users safe during construction.
Crews will also be removing trees and vegetation where the upgraded road is being built.
MRPV will be offsetting around 1.05 hectare of native vegetation offsite and replanting trees and vegetation to make an equivalent contribution to Victoria’s biodiversity.
MRPV is working closely with Casey City Council, Parks Victoria, local schools and men’s sheds to determine an appropriate distribution of donated timber for reuse across the relevant community groups.
These early works will be completed in June, before crews move onto protecting and relocating utility services.
Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade is being delivered in line with the Victorian Government’s Recycled First Policy, which for the first time in Australian history requires construction contractors to incorporate as much recycled and reused content as possible across transport projects.
The project will improve traffic flow and access to Cranbourne town centre, reduce congestion on South Gippsland Highway, and make it safer for the 33,000 motorists who use the road every day.
The Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road Upgrade is expected to be complete by 2025.
