Recycled materials are being turned into beautiful Christmas wreaths to raise money for the Cranbourne Lost Dogs Home.
Busy Bees Cranbourne child care worker Danielle Brocklehurst raises money for a different charities in the Cranbourne area every year.
This year, she has gathered fake Christmas trees and decorations from local opportunity shops and turned them into hand crafted Christmas wreaths that she sells to friends, coworkers and locals.
She said the money raised would help The Lost Dog’s Home care for animals that come in over the holiday period.
“On New Years Eve, dogs get out because of fireworks and The Lost Dog’s Home is quite busy,” Ms Brocklehurst said.
“The money will help them care for the dogs during that busy period.”
Ms Brocklehurst has already raised around $700 and will present a cheque to the Lost Dogs Home this week.
The 46 year old enjoys making her crafts well into the night and has taken over her partner’s garage as a craft station.
“From about October, I collect native foliage from local parks and get all the embellishments and in November I start making the wreaths of different themes,” she said.
“You can’t buy this sort of stuff in the shops you can tell it’s handmade – the girls at work love them.”
Ms Brocklehurst has made about 30 wreaths all styled in varying themes, with one one lolly themed wreath covered in candy canes.
“I like to pay it forward in life and give back to the community.”
