Casey City Council held a council meeting on Tuesday 16 November, where a number of council documents were approved.

A major issue addressed during community question time was the condition of reserves and parks in the council area.

Chair of administrators Noelene Duff apologised to the community for the condition of the public spaces.

“Council is aware of the issue and we’re working hard to maintain the mowing backlog,” Ms Duff said.

“The level of rainfall has impacted our schedule to maintain the parks and several have not been maintained for seven to eight weeks – we apologise for the state of the parks.”

Council then unanimously agreed to release the draft Good Governance Framework to ensure they meet the needs of the community.

“We’re taking that document and from those guiding principles, setting out a framework of how we can conduct good governance by engaging with community for their input and showing them how we operate,” administrator Miguel Belmar said.

Ms Duff encouraged community members to provide feedback on the plan.

“I’m very keen to hear from the community about their thoughts.”

All councillors were in favour of the motion.

Council also endorsed the strategic risks for inclusion in the confidential Strategic Risk Register 2021-2026.

“We have assessed the mitigation’s in place to ensure an adequacy in responsiveness for what we are adopting tonight,” administrator Cameron Boardman said.

“The extensiveness of the operation we’ve conducted has been exactly that – extensive.

“The key is to ensure these never become anything more than paper risks.”

All were in favour of the Strategic Risk Register 2021-2026.

No petitions or urgent business were lodged for the meeting.
