Name Clyde’s new schools!

The community of Clyde and surrounds is being invited to have its say in naming two new schools.

Clyde North Station Secondary College, located at 80 Woodfield Avenue, and Clyde North Station Primary School, located at Elliston Avenue, both of which are currently known by their interim names, are set to open in Clyde in 2022.

Education Minister James Merlino announced on Friday 11 June that people in Clyde can vote for their preferred names, add suggestions and provide feedback via an online survey on the Engage Vic website.

The Victorian Government is seeking the community’s input to help find a name for the two schools that reflects their unique identity, inspires local pride and makes the schools easily locatable.

The options for Clyde North Station Primary School are:

• Clyde Creek Primary School – chosen because of its geographical reference to the nearby watercourse.

• Manna Gum Primary School – chosen to reflect the native flora of the area.

• Heath Wattle Primary School – chosen also to reflect the native flora of the area.

The option for Clyde North Station Secondary College is Clyde Secondary College – chosen because the school is in Clyde.

People are welcome to suggest other names through the survey.

The two Clyde schools are among 11 that are currently known by interim names but that the public is being invited to have say on.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale said community input on the names was important.

“We want to give our local community the opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the identity and future of their local new schools and ensure each school reflects the unique character of its local community,” she said.

Cranbourne MP Pauline Richards said the naming move was a “milestone” for the community.

“This is an exciting step for the Clyde community and marks a milestone in establishing an identity for their new school,” she said.

The shortlisted names for each school were identified by a Regional Advisory Group, based on factors including public interest, relevance to the local area, and the consideration of local indigenous languages.
