Bass MP Jordan Crugnale has shared her love of reading with Clyde Primary School students as they dive in to the Premiers’ Reading Challenge.
Ms Crugnale visited the school on Friday 14 May to gift students a selection of books to read for the challenge.
Ms Crugnale spent time with the kids explaining why she enjoyed each book, before passing them on to students.
“Each year I gift my primary schools a collection of books for students to read in their libraries,” she explained.
“They are books that kids have told me about, that our local librarians have recommended, parents rave about or on the Australian Children’s Literature List – they are books I have read and love.
“They are books that are insightful, fun, make us think and reflect, teach us about people, about communities, about languages and cultures.
“They span across the age groups and the illustrations are beautiful.”
The Premiers’ Reading Challenge runs every year and aims to give Victorian kids the chance to discover the world of books.
Since the challenge began in 2005, more than three million students have read nearly 50 million books.
Local libraries are provided with funding to buy the books that are on the challenge reading list.
Casey Cardinia was allocated $59,960 in December 2020 to purchase the titles.
Ms Crugnale encourgaed students to keep reading – not just for the Reading Challenge.
“Books take us to so many different places, times and into our imaginations,” she said.
“I just love seeing kids sit, look through picture books, read and explore the world of reading.”
