Alleged funeral thief charged

A man who allegedly stole money during a funeral in Hampton Park has been charged.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in 2015 during a funeral procession at about 12pm on 11 July.

It’s alleged the 60-year-old man stole donation envelopes from a church located on Hallam Road.

As part of a historical investigation into the alleged theft, Victoria Police detectives from the North West Regional Crime Squad arrested the man at an address in Werribee on Wednesday 28 October.

The alleged thief has been charged with theft before he was released on bail.

He is set to appear before the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 8 June next year.
