A $22.8 million makeover of Clyde Primary School is one step closer with the State Government securing a site to expand the school.
Member for Bass Jordan Crugnale and Member for Cranbourne Pauline Richards announced that land at Clyde-Five Ways Road had been acquired to support the delivery of new learning and sports facilities for the school.
The expansion of Clyde Primary School will include a new junior school building, administration building and sports facilities including a new gymnasium, soccer field and two new hard courts.
The existing school buildings will also undergo a complete refurbishment to provide a new library and staff work areas, and the school will also receive a new relocatable building for specialist training. The project will include 11 new general learning areas, specialist art, STEM and music areas.
External design features include a custom-built outdoor learning area, kitchen garden and landscaping throughout.
The school is expected to open in 2022 and will cater for 525 students once completed.
In a previous interview with Star News the principal of Clyde Primary School Fiona Pratt welcomed the announcement, saying an expansion was timely given the student enrolments were expected to grow in the years to come.
Meanwhile, Ms Crugnale and Ms Richards also announced land at Eliston Avenue, Clyde has been purchased for the new Clyde North Station Primary School (interim name) and that the tender for construction is now open.
The new school is expected to open in 2022 and will cater for 525 students once completed.
Planning for Clyde North Station Primary School has involved extensive consultation with the local community, the results of which will be published in the coming months. A founding principal will start next year, and they will work with locals to name the new school.
The new school is part of the school building boom that will see 100 new government schools open by 2026.
