A 49-year old man has been arrested in Lyndhurst over the deaths of four police officers who were killed in a horror crash on the Eastern Freeway in April.

Detectives from Taskforce Paragon have charged Simon Tuteru who is understood to be the Victorian manager of trucking company, Connect Logistics.

The Frankston man was arrested in Lyndhurst on Saturday 2 August about 9.20am.

He has been charged with four counts of manslaughter and appeared before an out of sessions hearing following his arrest.

Mohinder Singh of Cranbourne was driving a truck in Kew when he veered across multiple lanes and struck four officers.

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Glen Humphris and Constable Josh Prestney died while they were dealing with a Porsche driver in the emergency lane of the freeway.

Victoria Police said the arrest followed an extensive three-month investigation led by Road Policing Operations and Investigation Division with the assistance of specialist investigators from across Victoria Police.

In April, Major Collision Investigation Unit had executed search warrants at residential addresses in Frankston and Croydon – with people associated with the Connect Logistics.

Mr Singh, 47, was charged with four counts of culpable driving, an offence which carries a maximum 20-year jail term.

He faced the Melbourne Magistrate’s Court on 27 April. He was remanded to appear at the next hearing scheduled for October.
