Supermarket converts to a home delivery hub

Woolworths’ Cranbourne Park supermarket will permanently close to in-store customers at 6pm on Friday 3 July.

The store, which Woolworths had previously announced would close in August, will be converted to a dedicated home delivery store for the next two months to support the online grocery needs of Victorians, including those self isolating or staying at home.

The conversion to a home delivery store will allow Woolworths to pick and dispatch thousands more weekly online orders to customers in southeast Melbourne in the coming months. Demand for online groceries has increased significantly in Melbourne as more customers seek to limit their community outings in COVID-19 hotspots.

Woolworths opened a replacement store at Cranbourne West on 12 June with an expanded fresh food section, contemporary fit-out and the convenience of a drive-thru pick up. There are three further Woolworths stores within five kilometres of Cranbourne Park.

All Cranbourne Park team members have been offered redeployment to the new Cranbourne West location or other stores in the area. There are no job losses as a consequence of the decision to close the store.

Woolworths Supermarkets Victorian general manager Andrew Hall said: “We thank our Cranbourne Park customers for their support over the years and hope to welcome them to our newly opened supermarket in Cranbourne West.

“From Saturday, Cranbourne Park will become a dedicated home delivery hub, where our team will handpick online orders to meet the increased demand for home delivery across the City of Casey.

“It’s an uncertain time for many local customers and this move will ensure we have the delivery capacity to support the essential grocery needs of many more local customers online.”
