Bomb squad responds to ‘suspicious device’

Police have responded to a bomb threat outside a Cranbourne East service station which resulted in people being evacuated on Monday 9 March.

The Bomb Response Unit went to the site of the United service station on the corner of Thompsons Road and Wheelers Park Drive following reports a ‘suspicious device’ being located about 9.25am.

Police are currently conducting safety checks at the premises.

“As a precaution, an exclusion zone has been established and the service station has been evacuated,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

“The Bomb Response Unit (BRU) has been notified and are on way to the scene”.

The circumstances are being investigated with police confirming no one had been injured.

Firefighters were also on standby at the scene with a pumper truck from Cranbourne fire brigade attending and assisting police for an hour, a CFA spokesperson said.
