Search for missing hiker

Police are continuing to search the Victorian high country for missing Hampton Park hiker Niels Becker.

The 39-year-old left Upper Jamieson Hut on Thursday 24 October intending to walk to the Macalister Springs area.

He texted family from the Valejo Ganther Hut on Saturday 26 October saying he intended to head next to Mount Stirling, however it’s not clear what route he was planning to take to get there.

He was due back at his vehicle on 29 October but had not done so and was reported missing.

The search for Mr Becker recommenced at 7.00am on Wednesday 6 November with over 70 people, including police on the ground and air wing, with assistance from SES, DELWP, and Bush Search and Rescue.

Mr Becker is a competent hiker, and was believed to be well equipped for the walk and familiar with the area, however police and his family became concerned when he didn’t arrive back on the intended date.

Police have released an image of Mr Becker in the hope that someone may have information on his current whereabouts.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has seen Mr Becker throughout his travels and urge them to contact Mansfield Police Station on 5775 2555.
