Healthy lunches will be on the menu for Tooradin Primary School students after planting their own vegie garden on Wednesday 31 July.
With the help of Bunnings Warehouse staff in Clyde the group built a raised herb garden outside the school’s cooking classroom.
They planted a wide range of herbs, vegetables and edible flowers that will be transformed into tantalising dishes for all students.
“This garden area was built as a raised bed to allow students of all abilities to easily access the enjoyment of growing their own ingredients and harvesting these to create taste sensations” the school’s kitchen specialist Sam Pendrey said.
She said Bunnings provided some new and unusual plants such as globe artichokes, peppermint, midyim berry, blueberries and bush peppermint which will challenge them to explore exciting new flavours.
“The next thrill for students will be investigating more herbs that can fill this space and further expand their culinary experience in the school cooking and garden program,” she said.
