Alannah eyes Oz title

Talented Cranbourne North basketballer Alannah Gillespie has earned a spot in the School Sport Victoria under-18 team and will now vie for the Australian title.

The 16-year-old, who plays for the Nunawading Spectres, will take part in the School Sport Australia championship in Bendigo from 10-16 August.

She participated in a structured trial process to be selected to represent the School Sport Victoria State Team.

The Rowville Sports Academy student has been playing basketball since the age of nine and her parents Raymond and Jean congratulated Alannah for “all her hard work.”

“Special thanks to her coach Ivan Dukanac for working with her and pushing her to aim high,” they said.

“We wish Alannah good luck at the championship.”

Alannah trains daily – a combination of school basketball training, training with her skills coach, representative tram and strength and conditioning.

She even trains with her skills coach during Easter, Boxing Day and school holidays.

Many past School Sport Victoria team members have gone onto compete at national and international competitions including Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games.
