Cricket writer Gideon Haigh shared some insights of his new book with readers during a visit to Hampton Park Library on Wednesday 23 January.

His new book, Crossing the Line: how Cricket lost its way, explores the Australian cricket team across a decade of radical change, and a system struggling to cope with self-created challenges, on the field and in the boardroom.

Gideon wonders: is there even any longer a spirit of the game to be within?

“I chatted a bit about various of my cricket books, mainly Crossing the Line, my ersatz ‘cultural review’ of Australian cricket in the light of events at Cape Town,” Gideon said.

“I answered a lot of questions and enjoyed meeting members of Packenham Upper CC, including members of their under-12s.”

A journalist for 35 years, Gideon also provided a great conversation about this summer’s cricket before signing and selling his new book.

He was born in London, grew up in Geelong, and now lives in Melbourne, from where he writes about cricket for The Australian, The Times and Cricketer.
