Great efforts by little athletics

Children of all abilities are reaching new heights at the Cranbourne Little Athletics Centre.

The rising stars of the track and field competed in multi-class relay race on Saturday 8 December with parents cheering on the youngsters from the grandstand.

Three teams competed in the race with each running 100 metres. Teagan ran 200 metres to make up the extra metres for her team.

Secretary Nina O’Dea said it was momentous occasion for the athletes and their parents.

“We thank our team manager Bronwyn Schmutter and coach Andrea Familo for preparing our teams,” she said.

“We also would like to extend our thanks to Gary Rowe from Bendigo Bank Carrum Downs and Mayor Amanda Stapledon for coming down and getting involved on the day and for supporting our club.

A parent relay race followed after the multi-class relays with 52 parents participating, including head coach Matt Warwick.

“The athletes loved seeing their mum or dad running on the track,” Ms O’Dea said.

“We hope to have our multi-class athletes running in regional and state events from next season.”
