Libs promise helping hand for scouts

Cranbourne 1st Scouts Hall will receive a new lease of life if the State Coalition is elected to power.

The Coalition has pledged to provide $200,000 to upgrade the hall which will be matched by Scouts Victoria for repair works including bitumen the car park, and replace the kitchen and bathrooms.

Opposition for Young Victorians spokeswoman Steph Ryan said the Liberal Nationals want to support scouts and guides because they give young people great skills for life.

Liberal Candidate for Cranbourne Ann-Marie Hermans said the current hall had been neglected under Labor, who had also failed to keep with population growth.

“This funding will help local scouts to continue their outstanding work in supporting, training and mentoring our local youth,” she said.

The Coalition also recently announced Devon Meadows Scouts Hall would receive a $42,500 facelift, if elected at this month’s state election.

Restoration works will include the elimination of termites and replacement of the ageing roof.

A re-elected Labor Government has promised to provide $5.5 million towards building new scout halls in growing areas and upgrade and repair existing halls across Victoria.

The State Government also announced it would contribute $650,000 towards building a new hall for the Narre Warren South Scout Group.
