Q and A with Natalie Young

With Natalie Young, horse trainer at Cranbourne Racecourse

What inspired you to become a horse trainer and what does your daily routine look like? My Mum used to train a few race horses when I was younger and so I learned to ride. From there, I started riding track work for local trainers. The daily routine for any horse trainer starts before the sun rises. Trent and I are at the stables at 4am six days a week to work our stable of 69 horses. We have a staff of 25 to ensure things run smoothly in the morning. It is very important when you are also preparing for races the same day.

What was your most memorable moment in the racing industry? Winning the Victoria Derby with Sangster

What is something people don’t know about you? I can eat my weight in food.

What is your favourite movie? Finding Nemo

If you were PM for a day, what would you do? Assist small businesses by reforming WorkCover, reducing taxes and giving rights back to employers

At school I……I couldn’t wait to leave.

Favourirte holiday spot in Australia? Gold Coast

Where did you grow up as a child? New Zealand

What’s your favourite book? Life of Pi

Best concert you have been to? Adele
