Fire has destroyed a double garage in Cranbourne North on Sunday 4 November.

The garage was fully alight when CFA crews arrived at the Maltravers Court home about 6.30pm.

An assembly of firetrucks, including a breathing apparatus appliance and a gas specialist vehicle, were called out from Hallam, Narre Warren and Cranbourne.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, stopping it from spreading into neighbouring yards.

CFA Operations Officer Paul Summons said there were no injuries and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.

“At this stage we don’t believe it’s suspicious. We’ll be keeping an eye on our findings,” he said.

Mr Summons said at one stage the fire threatened a neighbouring property and the home.“Quick actions of crews stopped that spreading to adjoining structures.

“Two of the things that posed a risk were a couple of LPG barbecue cylinders that were damaged by fire so we responded specialist crews to flare those off,” he added.

“Garages can be a little bit of the unknown, you don’t know what you’re getting.”

Neighbour Kim Kilian said she comforted an occupant of the house who was “sobbing and screaming out” before emergency services arrived.

“I grabbed her and hugged her and didn’t let go giving her comforting words,” she said on Facebook. “She settled for a while. I said I lived just around the corner and if she needed anything to let me know.

“I know she’s lost her Elvis collection and clothes. The house wasn’t affected, just the garage.”
