Students have rolled up their sleeves for a day of planting native trees at Clyde Primary School on Friday 26 October.
The tree planting was coordinated by Cardinia Catchment Landcare who teamed with students from Alkira Secondary College and Clyde Primary School to help promote the natural biodiversity of Clyde.
Clyde Primary School education support teacher Karen Carpenter said the day was an opportunity to teach children about how to protect the natural environment.
“The 12 VCAL students from Alkira worked all day planting, guarding, spreading mulch and watering working alongside ten of Clyde Primary school’s students,” she said.
“The students all expressed the day was surprisingly fun.”
She added the day could be the start a long term relationship between Landcare and schools to help restore the environment at a “very critical time for our earth and Australia.”
