School is back on Monday

Much to the dismay of many kids, and to the delight of many parents, students will head back to school for the start of Term 4 next Monday 8 October.

VicRoads reminds drivers that school speed zones will be in force from 8am.School speed zones are designed to keep pedestrians safe by lowering the speed limit at peak times when children are travelling to and from school.

Some school speed zones are permanent, while others operate between 8am–9:30am and 2:30pm–4pm on weekdays during Victorian school terms.

In most cases, the speed limit during school speed zone times is 40km/h, when the original speed limit is less than 80km/h  and 60km/h, when the original speed limit is 80km/h or higher.

Be aware, many Victorians will be returning from holidays this weekend. VicRoads reminds motorists to take extra care, especially on roads they are unfamiliar with.

VicRoads says not to drive when you’d normally be sleeping, and be sure to take regular rest breaks.

Traffic is expected to be busier than normal on the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, Phillip Island, the Surf Coast and the Hume Freeway.

For the latest traffic information around the state visit traffic.vicroads.vic.gov.au or download the VicTraffic app via your app store.

If you see any hazards on our roads, please report them to the VicRoads Traffic Management Centre on 13 11 70 (open 24/7). In an emergency, call Triple Zero.
