Crews called to gas leak

Fire crews were called to a service station in Cranbourne West after an LPG tank began leaking gas on Saturday 22 September.

Twenty firefighters from Cranbourne and Narre Warren with the support of a HAZMAT appliance from Hallam arrived at the BP service station on Frankston Cranbourne Road near Monahans Road about 1pm.

A CFA spokesman said the leak was a result of a truck striking a valve on the 30000 litre LPG tank, which was 70 per cent full at the time.

There was no evacuation or reported injuries.

It is believed a truck from a nearby building site caused the damage to the gas valve.

Firefighters safeguarded the scene until a BP gas tanker arrived to transfer the remaining gas.

Fire crews remained at the site until 10pm.

A community safety message was issued about 7.30pm for Botanic Ridge and Cranbourne West areas; however there was no immediate threat. Worksafe also attended.
