2018 YMCA Community Father of the Year announced

Local Dad/Father figure Scott Wallace has been named as the Casey RACE 2018 YMCA Community Father of the Year.

Dad/Father figure Scott Wallace of Devon Meadows has been named as the Casey RACE 2018 YMCA Community Father of the Year. Narre Warren’s Vishal Sharma was also named as the Casey Stadium winner and Murali Narasimhan as the Casey ARC winner.

The YMCA Casey region received a huge response from families nominating their dad or father figure.

Community Engagement Co-ordinator Tori Norris said selecting a winner hadn’t been easy.

Ms Norris announced Scott Wallace as the 2018 YMCA Casey Community Father of the Year and said he was an extraordinary example of a dad/father figure.

Scott was nominated by his sons Tahj, Cody and Ronan after they submitted a heartfelt story about their dad.

Tahj stated that his dad was a great cook, puts a roof over his head, has awesome Dad jokes, great advice and is always there to help.

Cody, their 12 year old son was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour and hydrocephalus (excess fluid on the brain) just before he was two years old.

Since then, Cody has undergone nine brain surgeries to date (with another scheduled this year).

Scott is a teacher and head of IT at Beaconhills College in Pakenham.

Scott, Vishal and Murali have been presented with a family pass to the third annual YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run to be held on Father’s Day, 2 September.

Casey RACE Centre Manager, Carly Sanders, said the YMCA Community Father of the Year award recognised a local dad or father figure who was like a superhero to the children in their life.

“The YMCA Community Father of the Year award is all about celebrating the important role of fathers in our community. Scott, Vishal and Murali are a wonderful example of our local superhero’s and are deserving winners,” Ms Norris said.

Carly Sanders added that Father’s Day on Sunday, 2 September is a great day to slow down and spend time together as a family.

“Use the day as an opportunity to head to the park, kick the footy, or walk or run in the YMCA Father’s Day Fun Run,” Ms Sanders said.

The YMCA founded Father’s Day in the United States in 1910 and the Y remains dedicated to enabling people to be healthier, happier and connected to their community.
