From making paper boats to creating shapes from monsters and acting, youngsters were limited to their imagination during story-time held at Tooradin Primary School.

Catering for tots aged up to four, prep teacher Carly Payne says the story-time sessions are an opportunity for future prep students to experience a classroom environment while enjoying the excitement of stories.

During a session held on Monday August 6 August, well-known children’s authors included Mem Fox, Pamela Allen and Eric Carle were read to the youngsters.

“Story-time introduces pre-school children to the classroom in a relaxed manner through stories; helping them to understand that school is an exciting space for learning, sharing and exploring together,” said Ms Payne.

She said stories were carefully selected by the prep teachers to extend children’s love of literature and interacting with the story by participating in songs and games.

Parents are also able to become familiar with the school and experience their inspired community of learners, Ms Payne added.

Teacher Rachel Davis said: “We find it makes a wonderful difference in supporting our preps to settle quickly into the start of their formal schooling and build their confidence in coping with change.”
