A Junction Village couple are hoping the community can help their young son battling a rare condition.
Cody, 12, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour and hydrocephalus which consists of excess fluid on the brain just before he was 2 years old.
Since then, Cody has undergone nine brain surgeries and been diagnosed with epilepsy, Hypothalamus Dysfunction, acquired brain injury and intellectual disability.
“With all of this Cody’s physical ability, memory, cognition and ability to learn is severely impacted,” explained his parents, Scott and Tracy Wallace on their GoFundMe page.
“All medications have been tried; tested and failed…Cody even contracted meningitis from one of his epilepsy treatments.”
“Cody’s seizures do not stop without medical intervention and even with emergency medication there is no guarantee that it will stop,” his parents say.
Today, they are desperate to raise enough money to buy a seizure alert dog.
A canine companion, they say, will be able to provide the 24-hour surveillance he needs to ensure his safety.
“We have cameras, audio monitors and a seizure mat on his bed, these of course are not fail safe,” Scott and Tracy said.
“We feel that an alert dog would not only give Cody comfort and companionship but also watch over him always, especially when he is asleep.”
The cost of the seizure alert dog to buy, raise and train is $30000.
“It is up to us to raise $20000,” Cody’s parents say, with the final $10000 being provided by the organisation training the dog.
“Every little bit helps, please spread the word far and wide to help our son find a dog that could potentially save his life.”
