Three…bicycle safety tips

1) Victoria Police advise wearing a properly fitted and approved bike helmet, reducing your risk of head injuries in a crash by up to 60 per cent. The current penalty for not wearing a helmet is $201.

2) Wear protective clothing such as closed footwear and reflective or light coloured clothing and ensure you have front and back lights when riding at night.

3) Use bike lanes where possible, stay alert and avoid distractions. Police say leaving 1.5 metres between the other cyclist when riding two-abreast is the safest option.
