New gym opens

Casey Grammar School has unveiled its new state-of-the-art gym after undergoing a $2.8 million makeover.

Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera officially opened the new gym at the Cranbourne East school on Friday 27 July thanks to a $1.33 million grant from the State Government’s Non-Government Schools Grants Program.

The project saw an extension and refurbishment of the current gym, featuring a new foyer area, staff office, student change room facilities, two PE storerooms, outdoor education storeroom, and multipurpose classroom including outdoor learning area.

The State Government has invested $120 million to build and upgrade Catholic and independent schools across the State, matching dollar for dollar the sector’s contribution over four years.

Member for Cranbourne Jude Perera said the gym was quality infrastructure which would allow students and teachers the “learning environment they need to achieve their best.”

“This is on top of Labors recent Education announcements of a new primary school in the Casey Fields area, a new primary school in the Clyde North area, a new primary school in Botanic Ridge, land for the construction of a new Secondary College in Cranbourne West with a Special School,” he said.

Casey Grammar School principal Richard Baird said they would be able to run four classes at any given time, ranging from preps to Year 12.

“This facility also facilitates senior school sports science, PE and exercise physiology classes as well as House activities and community events. It truly is a mulita-purpose space for all of our students including our new third stream of prep students,” he said.

“As an educational organisation I am committed to providing the best learning opportunities for our students. This includes teaching 21st century skills in innovative and contemporary spaces.”

“I would like to thank the CSV board for their vision and support of our school and its Principals past and present. Thanks also to Mr Jude Perera our local MP, for his ongoing commitment to the Cranbourne Community and for giving up his time to officially open our facility,” Mr Baird said.
