A large crowd of bargain hunters filled the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens in search of the perfect plant.

With prices ranged from $3-10, a huge range of Australian native plants were in demand from buyers on Saturday 21 July.

More than 2000 plants were sold including Acacias, Calothamnus, Grevilleas, and Thomasia species which were grown at the Cranbourne Gardens and not usually available in commercial nurseries.

The plants were propagated by the Growing Friends of Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Cranbourne Gardens.

“This year was extremely busy, with visitors lined up at the gates before the sale opened,” said President Cranbourne Friends, Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Indra Kurzeme.

“This is a fun event for people who are passionate about native plants and the natural environment. All the funds raised go directly to Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Cranbourne Gardens and ultimately benefit the community. This year, a massive $20,000 was raised for Cranbourne Gardens – a huge success,” he said.

Plant sales are held every season with the Spring Plant Sale on 27 and 28 October.

Cranbourne Friends groups are always looking for new members too – from photographers to illustrators, fabricators and the Growing Friends.
