THREE… tax deductions you may have forgotten about

1) To claim a work-related deduction you must have spent the money yourself and weren’t reimbursed, it must directly relate to earning your income and you must have a record to prove it.

2) You can only claim a tax deduction for gifts or donations to organisations that have a ‘deductible gift recipients’.

3) Many people use their personal mobile phones to make work-related calls. That’s another thing you can claim with the Australian Taxation Office. Just remember to list the cost of your work-related calls, not your entire phone bill. It is useful to determine the average percentage of your calls that are work-related.
