Truckies nabbed in council blitz

Truckies parking in residential streets were targeted by Casey Council with Local Laws Officers issuing six infringement notices last Sunday May 27.

Casey Council’s Manager of Safer Communities Caroline Bell said officers conducted a planned truck patrol following complaints from concerned residents regarding issues of safety.

“Council provided a warning to residents prior to the patrol, which officers are confident contributed to a high level of compliance,” she said.

As a result of the patrol Council investigated 22 customer requests with each of the six infringements relating to trucks left in built up areas for more than one hour, Ms Bell said.

The patrol included checks on property owners who have trucks greater than 7.5 metres in length, parked in the driveway to ensure they have a current Local Law permit that enables them to do so.

“The main cause for concern is safety issues, such as over length and heavy vehicles parked in residential streets and no reflectors on the back of trucks at night,” Ms Bell said.

“The roads are also narrowed due to the width of the parked trucks, and there are noise impacts from trucks being left idle for long periods.”
