Home owner injured while fleeing

By Brendan Rees

A man broke his foot while trying to flee from intruders who allegedly forced their way into his Botanic Ridge home on Tuesday, 1 May.

Police have been told the 32-year-old victim was in the shower when he heard knocking at the front door at about 7.30am.

Casey crime investigation unit Senior Constable Alison Johnson said a group of three men were on the front porch of the Seaview Drive home where they have kicked in a glass section of the front door.

The victim ran out the back after the intruders stormed into the house by smashing another window. They ransacked the home, stealing cash and a set of car keys, before leaving in a dark VT Commodore, she said.

“When the victim tried to flee out the back door he’s jumped the back fence and broken his foot whilst doing so,” she said.

Sen Const Johnson said unknown offenders returned the following night in an attempt to steal the victim’s car, described as a Jeep, which was parked in the driveway. However they were unsuccessful as the car was demobilised.

“The bonnet of the vehicle was up and the doors were open,” she said.

Sen Const Johnson said it was not known if the intruders were involved in attempting to steal the victim’s car. “Whether they’ve given the keys to someone else, no idea,” she said.

The victim spent two nights at Frankston hospital after undergoing surgery to his foot.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
