Hampton Park Senior Citizens were honoured to receive a brand new defibrillator thanks to the Lions Club of Hampton Park.
The Lions Club, along with the help of a $1000 donation made by Aspire Church in Clyde North and other community contributions, were able to raise $3450.
Hampton Park’s volunteer fire brigade were also grateful to receive a $600 cheque to go towards new uniforms.
The donations were presented at the Lions Club on Monday, 19 March.
Casey Councillors Wayne Smith and Damien Rosario, members of the Hampton Park Senior Citizens Committee, Hampton Park CFA fire brigade and Aspire Church were among the guests at the presentation.
Club secretary Robert Stone said the defibrillator, worth $2850, was presented to the Hampton Park Senior Citizens president John Harper while the $600 cheque was presented to Hampton Park’s fire brigade captain Graeme Wilson.
“The defibrillator was supplied by Australian Pacific Training Supplies and their representative Victoria Humphreys was on hand to provide basic instruction on its use,” he said.
Mr Stone said it was a privilege to give back to the community.
“Whatever we can do in some small way to help those within the community who are less well off or disadvantaged in some way, that’s what we try and do.”
He said the Hampton Park fire brigade was a vital service. “To us, they’re everyday heroes. When someone is in trouble they turn up.”
Cr Rosario said Aspire Church’s donation to the Lions Club was highly generous.
“These kind of outstanding partnerships are what make our community a terrific place to live. We are grateful for all that they do,” he said.
Lions president Elaine Barnes said that the club welcomed the opportunity to recognise the work of Hampton Park’s community groups.
“These donations will be our contribution to help extend the service they provide,” she said.
The Lions Club hopes to make a further donation later this year to Hampton’s Park Kilberry Valley Primary School as a contribution to their student community garden.
