Children go on croc hunt

By Brendan Rees

Some brave children set on a daring quest to find a large reptile in Cranbourne last week.
Hosted by the City of Casey and now in its 10th year, the annual Woodlands Walk saw children and their families exploring the Royal Botanic Gardens on Thursday, 15 March – in search of a crocodile.
This year’s adventure walk was based on the book ‘We’re going on a Croc Hunt’ by Laine Mitchell and Louis Shea.
The book centres on themes of exploration, wonder, and the sensory qualities of different Australian landscapes.
The walk, which was attended by more than 300 people, promoted literacy, nature and exploration for children.
At the end of the walk, children enjoyed engaging in a range of nature play activities and also experienced an Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony.
