A long-time RSPCA Victoria supporter and Bayside resident is funding an upgrade to the RSPCA Peninsula Animal Care Centre in Pearcedale.
Roy Poyser is a life member of the animal welfare charity and is thrilled to be funding the much-needed upgrade to the premises, which is decades old.
“The need to update RSPCA’s Pearcedale centre came at a time when I had a bit more (money) than I need at my age,” Mr Poyser, 75, said.
“I have loved animals all of my life and have always been a big supporter of RSPCA Victoria. As a hard-working man from a very poor start in life, I’m thrilled to be able to do my bit towards helping more animals into new forever homes.”
RSPCA Victoria CEO Dr Liz Walker said Mr Poyser’s generosity would allow RSPCA Victoria to construct a modern building for adoptions, surrenders and reclaims.
“Roy has generously offered to fully fund this project, which will allow our team to assist the public and their animals in a more suitable and welcoming environment,” Dr Walker said.
“It’s supporters like Roy who allow us to continue our important work to end cruelty to all animals.”
Building works at the RSPCA Peninsula site will begin shortly and should be completed by September in time for the busy summer period.
All RSPCA Peninsula services will continue during construction, and animals will be continually monitored for any signs of stress so that immediate action can be taken.
This is the first stage of an eventual redevelopment of the Pearcedale site.
